Es ist eine Anspielung auf die Silhouette von Mexiko-Stadt, einer der Partnerst\u00e4dte Berlins. Der Titel<i> Insurgentes Sur<\/i> bezieht sich auf den s\u00fcdlichen Teil der l\u00e4ngsten Hauptstra\u00dfe der mexikanischen Hauptstadt, die Avenida de los Insurgentes (Allee der Aufst\u00e4ndischen).<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Das Werk weist vielf\u00e4ltige Bez\u00fcge auf, so auf Alexander von Humboldts Forschungsreisen: Dieser hielt sich w\u00e4hrend seiner dritten Expedition im Jahr 1803 neun Monate in Mexiko-Stadt auf. Die historischen globalen Zusammenh\u00e4nge, die das Kunstwerk auf diese Weise aufruft, lenken den Blick auf die Sammlungen des Ethnologischen Museums im Humboldt Forum und die Frage nach Herkunft und Geschichte ihrer Objekte. Das f\u00fcr das Kunstwerk verwendete Gold ist hierbei nicht dekorativ zu verstehen. Gleichzeitig war Gold ein Anlass f\u00fcr viele Eroberungsz\u00fcge in S\u00fcdamerika, ist es doch einer der wertvollsten Rohstoffe schlechthin. Auch wird dadurch ein eleganter Bezug zu den musealen Inhalten des Humboldt-Forums hergestellt. Weiterhin wird die Tradition des mexikanischen Wandbildes ebenso zur\u00fcckhaltend wie anspruchsvoll zeitgen\u00f6ssisch reflektiert.
