Eye-to-Eye introduction by Chalida Uamumrungjit, director of the Thai Film Archive

This landmark in Thai film history was produced shortly after the beginning of World War II as an urgent appeal for peace.  Disguised as a period drama set in 16th century, it was the quarrel over a white elephant which almost sparked of a war between Thailand and it’s neighboring country Hongsa, today’s Myanmar. A royal cinematogrphic tribute to the majestic animal,  hardly to be surpassed. The original version was shot in English with Thai subtitles and addressed Thai audiences as well as the international community.
