Cosmopolitan, international, global: music, archives and politics in East and West Berlin since 1963<\/strong><\/p>\n

As a divided city, Berlin played a special role in the Cold War. How did musicologists, music archives and other institutions see their role in the struggle between the global powers? How were institutions such as the International Institute of Traditional Music (IITM) linked to cultural policy on the one hand and the city’s music program on the other?<\/p>\n

After the construction of the Berlin Wall, a cultural-political competition began in the field of international music studies. In the West, state-funded institutions such as the IITM and the DAAD Artists-in-Residence Program were established to promote traditional and non-Western music (studies). In the East, musicology was carried out at Humboldt University and the German Academy of Sciences.<\/p>\n

The conference deals with three central themes: Cultural Policy, Concerts and Festivals and Collections and Archives. In addition to the lecture program, students are invited to attend workshops in the participating archives on 4 July. Three evening events will also provide insight into the topic for the general public: on July 3 and 4, contemporary witnesses will speak about their experiences in East and West and on July 5, a concert will conclude the conference.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n
