The exhibition\u00a0Making Kin<\/em>\u00a0brings together\u00a0the\u00a0works\u00a0of\u00a0artists from Canada, South Korea, Nigeria, Ghana, Myanmar, Germany, Estonia, Uzbekistan,\u00a0and the US. Their various practices are\u00a0interconnected\u00a0by the understanding that we are all woven into a dynamic fabric of relationships:\u00a0not only\u00a0with other people, animals, plants, spiritual beings,\u00a0and\u00a0the cosmos but also\u00a0with\u00a0our office chairs. This relational world\u00a0view is linked to criticism of (colonial) regimes of violence and exploitation as well as state ideologies that reduce the diversity of relationships to\u00a0models\u00a0based on the\u00a0nuclear family and\u00a0to\u00a0rigid forms of belonging. The artists\u00a0resist\u00a0the\u00a0loss of connections,\u00a0knowledge,\u00a0biodiversity, languages\u00a0and\u00a0aesthetics\u00a0and\u00a0counter it with\u00a0an\u00a0exploration of marginalized forms of knowledge and relationship.<\/p>\n

There are four\u00a0central\u00a0themes:\u00a0belonging and community;\u00a0entanglements\u00a0between human and non-human collectives;\u00a0the revitalization and\u00a0passing on\u00a0of\u00a0devalued\u00a0knowledge\u00a0cultures;\u00a0and cultural memory and intergenerational exchange.<\/p>\n

The transcultural diversity of the artistic approaches turns the exhibition space into a\u00a0pluriverse<\/em>\u00a0and invites visitors to\u00a0weave\u00a0their own connections.<\/p>\n
