The WELTSTUDIO special invites visitors to question maps<\/span> and learn how to design their own. This BERLIN GLOBAL theme day is aimed at everyone, both young and old, who is interested in maps<\/span>, enjoys designing them and is open to new perspectives.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Maps<\/span> are powerful tools for understanding the world. How do maps<\/span> shape our perception and influence the way we treat our environment? How can we use the power of maps<\/span> creatively?<\/p>\n

Programme<\/h5>\n

The WELTSTUDIO features three expansive installations that invite visitors to experience new and creative ways of making maps<\/span>. At the weaving cartographer, the body cartographer and the rolling cartographer, we invite visitors to design their own community maps<\/span>.<\/p>\n

With the support of critical cartographers and artists, visitors create alternative maps<\/span> in a workshop<\/strong> using a variety of different materials, including weaving, painting and glueing. Maps<\/span> are created from wool, on huge posters or in small 3D formats.<\/p>\n

A special guided tour<\/strong> explores the maps<\/span> featured in the exhibitions After Nature<\/em> by Humboldt University of Berlin and BERLIN GLOBAL by Stadtmuseum Berlin.<\/p>\n

Short academic lectures <\/strong>on the Humboldt Collection Hein of the Stadtmuseum Berlin and the Humboldt Collection of the HU Berlin shed light on historical maps<\/span> in their collections.<\/p>\n

Visitors work with artists Camila Narbaitz Sarsur and Anne Kurr to develop collective map systems<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

One very special guest is the Maritiem Museum Rotterdam<\/strong>. Museum experts from the Netherlands give a lecture explaining the historical origins of coastal maps<\/span> and invite visitors to create their own maps<\/span>.<\/p>\n

Children can listen to and read illustrated stories<\/strong> about the oceans in BERLIN GLOBAL’s cosy lounge, where a variety of other books are available for browsing.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n
