Urban gardens are now an integral part of city life. From early pioneering projects, a nationwide network of more than 1,000 community gardens has emerged over the past two decades. Today, they are seen as urban laboratories for ecological, inclusive and participatory forms of neighbourhood-building.<\/p>\n

From the very beginning, women\u207a have played an important role in the gardening movement. The openness of these cultural and natural spaces makes urban gardens places where people can experience empowerment. They offer ideal conditions for putting feminist ideas into practice and bringing together diverse perspectives.<\/p>\n

On International Women\u207a\u2019s Day, BERLIN GLOBAL invites you to a talk by the sociologist Christa M\u00fcller. As co-editor of the book \u201cUnterwegs in die Stadt der Zukunft. Urbane G\u00e4rten als Orte der Transformation\u201d, she explores different dimensions of urban gardening and the role of such projects in shaping a caring, solidarity-centred, multispecies-friendly city.<\/p>\n

Afterwards, Anuscheh Amir-Khalili (activist and Open Space curator), Christa M\u00fcller and Elianna Renner (artist and activist) will discuss community gardens as spaces of feminist solidarity. The discussion will be moderated by political scientist Yannick M\u00fcller.<\/p>\n
