The fire at the Kurdish New Year festival Newroz (March 21) is an important symbol with multiple meanings. It recalls the legend of the blacksmith Kawa, who defeated the tyrannical ruler Dehak and lit a fire to announce the victory and the end of oppression. At the same time, the fire represents hope, freedom, and a new beginning. Since Newroz coincides with the beginning of spring, it also symbolizes the victory of light over darkness and the beginning of new life.
