Robert Walser was a passionate walker. Yet he was never interested in conquering mountain peaks. Instead, hurrying alone across flower-filled meadows, he sought the next inn, where he could gather a few crumbs of pure happiness from the local Alpine music, reflect on life itself, and sit quietly over the obligatory beer, gazing out with thoughtful reserve.<\/p>\n

It is precisely this atmosphere that the ensemble \u201cSamtblech\u201d and narrator and former tuba player Georg Schwark seek to recreate in this micro-concert: Walser, witty and reflective, serious and humorous all at once, surrounded by wonderful Alpine music on the highest exhibition levels of the Humboldt Forum.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe remains enigmatic. A wild, untended literary grave. And it may be even more difficult than with Kafka to arrive at sensible conclusions about him.\u201d German writer Martin Walser devoted much thought to his great Swiss namesake Robert Walser. Though unrelated by blood, the two shared a profound literary and intellectual kinship. Born in Biel in 1878, Robert Walser is today regarded as one of the most important authors of the twentieth century. Following a mental health crisis in 1929, he was admitted to a psychiatric institution, which he would never leave. He abandoned writing altogether and died in 1956 during a solitary Christmas walk in the snow.<\/p>\n
