More than half of the world’s population lives in cities – and the trend is rising. The pressure is growing to find solutions for sustainable and liveable cities. It is equally important to protect people and the environment from pollution and to ensure an intact coexistence. The Future Forum at the Humboldt Lab 2022 will devote three events to sustainable urban development. Representatives from science, politics and civil society come together to discuss sustainable solutions for the future.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Open spaces in the city are rare – and their use is often contested. Green spaces and recreational areas in particular are sources of conflict between different interests. Environmental protection and nature conservation must be taken into account just as much as economic requirements or the need for living and recreational space. And more and more often, citizens are participating in the design of public space, as the referendum on the Tempelhofer Feld showed. In the first event of the series, Monika Herrmann, Andrea Isermann-K\u00fchn, Ina Juckel and J\u00f6rg Niew\u00f6hner will discuss what sustainable and democratic urban planning can look like, where its benefits lie and what challenges it faces.<\/p>\n

The Future Forum is a joint event of the Humboldt-Universit\u00e4t zu Berlin and the Joachim Herz Foundation.<\/em><\/p>\n
