The screenings mainly take place outdoors. Sunshine Cinema adresses youth unemployment through a Sunbox Ambassadorship program by training young people to be media facilitators equipping them with a mobile, solar cinema kit called &#8220;The Sunbox&#8221;. The Ambassadors mobilise their communities to spark conversation and actively promote the events, inspired by the power of African films. He lives in Zambia, where most people rely on charcoal for fuel. In order to survive he has been a charcoal burner for many years, cutting down thousands of trees. We follow him on his personal journey as he addresses the destruction he has caused, opts to stop burning charcoal for a living, and sets up a micro-nursery selling trees to his neighbouring community instead. This short film offers a brief window into his journey and his deep-seated love for rapidly decreasing forests of Livingstone.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>DIRECTOR BIO<\/p>\n<p>Rowan Pybus is an impact campaign specialist from South Africa. His work for the last 20 years has been focused on social and environmental development. He founded Makhulu Media in 2005 to create film stories that matter and is the Co-Founder of Sunshine Cinema. In the course of his career, he has won awards from the UN Forum on Forests, National Geographic, Jackson Hole Wildlife Film Festival, and is a Salzburg Global Fellow.<\/p>\n<p>Sydelle Willow Smith is a storyteller and co-founder of Sunshine Cinema based in Cape Town, South Africa. She holds a Masters of Social Science in African Studies from The University of Oxford and is a Senior Atlantic Fellow for Racial Equity. She is passionate about audience engagement and experimenting with modes of public participation. It is within the context of public participation that she has drawn together her interests in media, anthropology, and socio-political interventions. Smith &amp; Pybus started Sunshine Cinema as a result of their film\u00a0<em>Amazing Grace<\/em>. He is interested in stories that start conversations and show different perspectives. He believes in creating an African cinema industry that tells international stories from an African perspective. Semagngeta runs a company called Guzo films. He is currently developing his first feature film titled\u00a0<em>A Farmer, A Traitor, A General and A Queen<\/em>\u00a0and a comedy TV series titled\u00a0<em>Love and Brain<\/em>. Influenced by the intersections of African hair, femininity and personal identity, &#8220;Scalp Deep&#8221; captures the struggles of a young African woman as she navigates the reactions and expectations of others after she decides to commit to a new look.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>DIRECTOR BIO<\/p>\n<p>Naseeba is an emerging filmmaker from Uganda.\u00a0<em>Scalp Deep<\/em>\u00a0is her first animated short film, and was made with the support of a grant from the Goethe Institute.<\/p>\n<p>Naseeba is passionate about representation in the media and telling impactful yet entertaining stories that don\u2019t shy away from the unique experiences and struggles of women. Naseeba is a graduate of Durham University where she studied law and politics. She is an alumna of the Africa Kommt! In 2014 he decided to quit his job and return to start his journey towards making an impact on the local and continental animation industry in Africa. The documentary\u00a0<em>Abbas<\/em>\u00a0is his film debut.
