In the 17th century, arts and crafts, painting and courtly architecture in India reach a peak of perfection. It is the era in which large parts of the subcontinent are under the influence of the Islamic Mughal dynasty. This classical period of Mughal art continues to inspire artistry in most Indian princely courts into the 19th century. In Europe, too, the Mughal style is considered the epitome of courtly elegance. Gardens and plant motifs are the central source of inspiration for Indian art of that era. Why this is so is explained to us by the director of the museum, who guides us through the exhibition “Courtly India”.<\/p>\n
