Code Week Hands-On Festival

How can robots help protect the environment? How much energy is involved in dancing? How can we spot fake news? And what can we learn about colonialism from VR games?

Under the motto “Rethink, Rebuild, Reshape!”, this one-day hands-on festival as part of the Europe-wide Code Week focuses on the themes of the environment and sustainability, digital responsibility, and colonialism and decolonisation. A diverse range of activities in the fields of coding, robotics, gaming and making raise questions about social responsibility and a future worth living – and they’re suitable for children aged 3 and over!

Stiftung Humboldt Forum and Verbund der Öffentlichen Bibliotheken Berlins (VÖBB) are organising a colourful festival programme for children, young people and adults for the fifth time in 2026: on 10 October from 11 am to 6 pm, on Schlossplatz, on the ground floor and first floor of the Humboldt Forum. Check it out!

It is necessary to book a free 90-minute time slot ticket to visit the hands-on activities in the Workshops (ages 3 and up) and in Hall 2 (ages 12 and up).

The ticket entitles you to enter either the Workshops or Hall 2 at the beginning of the booked time slot. Please check our website in advance to find out about the respective program and arrive at the venue on time.

Tickets are available online or at the box office in the foyer of the Humboldt Forum. Remaining tickets are available at the box office on the day of the event. Children aged 12 and under may only take part in the activities if accompanied by an adult. Please book one ticket per person (including toddlers).

Activities for children aged 3 and up in the Workshops – with time-slot tickets

Discover how to protect houses from earthquakes with Lego Education, learn how AI works with Pac-Man, help Dash and Spike sort rubbish, and keep the oceans clean with Kubo and BlueBot.

In the Workshops on the first floor of the Humboldt Forum, a wide variety of hands-on stations invite visitors to gain their first experiences of programming in a playful way and to try out child-friendly digital tools and robots.

Activities for ages 12 and up in Hall 2 – with time-slot tickets

Experience climate change up close in VR, recover stolen artefacts from museums playing Relooted, test your media literacy in the Newstest, try out AI for crisis situations, and use it to design your own version of a green Schlossplatz.

Hall 2 on the ground floor of the Humboldt Forum offers a varied programme where adults and teenagers ages 12 and up can discover new technologies, play games, hack and get creative together.

Lots more activities, free of charge and open to everyone – just pop in!

Join the discussion on social media at the political nail salon and explore VR installations and games about Indigenous rights, knowledge and languages. Take part in the TikTok Quiz (at 1 pm and 5 pm) and test your knowledge of the festival’s themes during the quiz sessions with Tom & Darren (between 2 pm and 5 pm) in the Mechanical Arena in the foyer. On Schlossplatz, the Maker Mobil is stopping by to bring the popular cooking simulation game Overcooked to life. On the first floor in the Humboldt Lab, the dome projection Living in Balance explores the indigenous star knowledge of the Anishinaabe (North America) and weaves together stories about stars, planets, moons, and seasons with teachings on how to live respectfully and in balance with nature and the environment. Further open, hands-on activities invite families with children to tinker and get creative.

A collaboration between Stiftung Humboldt Forum im Berliner Schloss and Verbund der Öffentlichen Bibliotheken Berlins, which has also been organising the Code Week Regio-Hub Berlin since 2025. The Code Week Regio-Hub Berlin is a nationwide initiative by Körber Stiftung and Code Week Germany.
