Bonjour au Soleil! A greeting to the sun! At the beginning of summer, Berlin is once again presenting itself with lots of music at the Fête de la Musique, the international festival of music. At the Humboldt Forum you can experience five open-air choir concerts – a foretaste of “Diversity of Voices”, the big choir festival at the Humboldt Forum in 2025.
Programme
4:00 PM: Déjà-Ouï
4:30 PM: Pretty Noise
5:00 PM: Hans-Beimler-Chor
5:30 PM: Chorvereinigung Concordia Berlin-Mitte e.V.
6:00 PM: Gemischter Chor der Polizei
The Fête de la Musique is an invention from France and has been celebrated annually in Berlin since 1995. Amateurs and professionals of all musical styles present their skills in public with free admission and no fee.
Participants
We are around 40 singers, a very diverse mix of ages 🙂 and we enjoy popular music. Since we started in 2012 with a handful of enthusiasts, we have grown steadily.
The focus is on intensive rehearsals with choir director Hanna-Lena Kühn. We have dedicated ourselves to polyphonic, unaccompanied a cappella singing. It is always an experience to see how a first note, a tentative groove, ultimately develops into a rich movement with all the power of a choral sound – without any aids, nets or false bottoms.
Pretty Noise is currently a group of 35 singing enthusiasts aged between 27 and 60. What unites us is our enthusiasm for singing together and working on challenging pieces. In short: we simply want to bring great songs to the stage – with lots of energy and passion!
We sing everything we enjoy – from epic classics such as Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody to songs by Green Day, Lady Gaga and Adele as well as German pop by the Prinzen and Herbert Grönemeyer. Our repertoire also includes creative arrangements of our own, such as a self-composed boy band medley or a “school disco mix”.
It emerged from West Berlin’s political singing movement in 1972.
In the more than 50 years of its work, it has accompanied the changing republic with many a song program and has also constantly changed itself.
Today, our 25 or so members come from many districts of the city and from different professional and age groups.
Our choir sees itself as part of emancipatory social movements.
Our repertoire comprises mainly polyphonic works of democratic culture:
Brecht, Eisler, Tucholsky, Theodorakis, Süverkrüp, Grönemeyer, Kreisler, Gershwin and others.
Since its founding on August 1, 1959, the CONCORDIA Berlin Mitte e.V. choir association has been one of the most traditional choirs in Berlin. The choir cultivates a wide-ranging repertoire of choral music. This includes German and international folk songs, pieces by the old masters and classical music. Under the direction of various professional choirmasters, this choir has always succeeded in developing artistically and has repeatedly delighted audiences with new and stylistically surprising spring and Christmas concerts.
In addition to these highlights of the concert year, the choir, as a registered association, regularly faces up to its social responsibility. Thanks to our close and now friendly contacts with various social institutions in Berlin, we perform several times a year with our own program for the house guests.
The Berlin Police Mixed Choir has now been in existence for over 50 years. The joy of singing and making music together has become a hobby that none of us would want to do without. Our community includes singers of all ages and professions. We cultivate a broad and varied repertoire. The choir performs vocal music from several centuries, ranging from the 15th to the 21st century. National and international, secular and sacred choral music, classical and folklore alternate. Melodies from opera, operetta, musicals or, for example, a hit mix of Udo Jürgens classics are also included.
