Chronos

The digital artwork C H R O N O S explores various facets of time through a generative narrative. An ever-changing interplay of light and shadow immerses the viewer in a constantly shifting visual landscape.

One of our main sources of inspiration was the sundial, which uses light and shadow—that is, the sun—to tell time. And this instrument, which has been used by humankind for thousands of years, is so deeply ingrained in our collective cultural understanding and so ubiquitous that we found it truly fascinating to take this fundamental concept and bring it into the digital world.

The artwork was specifically designed with the Humboldt Forum and the Kosmograf in mind: a world clock reflects the cosmopolitan significance of the site, while a planetary clock makes the passage of time in the astronomical cosmos tangible.
