+Panic — Kosmograf

Five different types of fish, each with distinct behaviors and appearances, live virtually within the Kosmograf and swim around its LED surface in ever-changing patterns of movement. From time to time, this harmonious choreography is disrupted by invisible predators. These impulses briefly transform the Cosmograph into an overwhelming play of colors, only to calm down again shortly thereafter as the fish regain their balance.

When I stand in front of it myself, I’m just so fascinated because the whole thing is so inspired by movement patterns found in nature—and since we used those as our model—it ends up having a similar effect to an actual aquarium.

Originally developed for the Humboldt Laboratory exhibition, the studio schnellebuntebilder created a custom version of the +Panic swarm system for the Kosmograf impressive and extraordinary display.
