In summer 2026, the Humboldt Forum celebrates the fifth anniversary of its opening. On this occasion, we will look back on moments from recent years and would like to celebrate together with you!

From June 27 to July 19, 2026, under the motto Five Years Open, the four partners invite you to rediscover the diversity of the Humboldt Forum. Five special action days with many free offers showcase what makes this place, its collections, and its programmes so unique: behind-the-scenes insights, a creative family festival in the workshops, the BERLIN GLOBAL Festival in the Schlüter Coutyard, a Sunday with free admission to all exhibitions, and vibrant science at the Humboldt Lab.

Finally open!
A broom ballet clears the way for the opening of the courtyards, ground floor, first floor, and the first special exhibition in June 2021.
Humboldting! A school research project
Confetti rain in the Schlüterhof: From summer 2021, 30 students from Märkisches Viertel will explore the Humboldt Forum over a period of five years.
Opening 2nd and 3rd Floor
With an exhilarating programme of concerts, DJ sets, and performances, the Sauer Power Club Night in September 2022 heralds the complete opening of all permanent exhibitions.

With a live broadcast to partners in Australia during the press conference, we opened the exhibition “Songlines. Tracking the Seven Sisters” in June 2022.
Let’s Code!
The first hands-on festival as part of Code Week will be taking place in the workshops in October 2022.
Vinyago. Dancing beyond colonial biographies
The co-production with an artists’ collective from Dar es Salaam made a strong impression in 2022 with its critical examination of colonialism, coloniality and museum practices in Tanzania and Germany.
in_finite. Living with Death’
The immersive exhibition ‘in_finite. Living with Death’ will make the inconceivable tangible in 2023 and offer visitors deeply personal moments of reflection.
Against the current
“We are still here!” is the central message of the temporary exhibition on the Omaha people, which has been on display since mid-November 2023, organised by the team at Nebraska Indian Community College.
Food for everyone
Since 2021, Kunstwerkstatt Kreuzberg, in collaboration with BERLIN GLOBAL, has been transforming the Schlüter Courtyard each year into an open space for creativity and community, including the soup kitchen ‘Food for everyone’.
Dia de Muertos
In 2023, the Fiesta de Dia de Muertos – one of the most famous cultural festivals – will be held at the Humboldt Forum for the first time, attracting around 40,000 visitors.
Kimsooja – (Un)Folding Bottari
Bottari, meaning ‘bundles’, serve as both material and metaphor for the internationally renowned artist Kimsooja. In 2023, she collaborated with guest curator Keumhwa Kim to create 14 interventions within the museum spaces.
Teachers’ Night
Since 2024, the Humboldt Forum has been inviting teachers, educators and members of the public to discover its cultural education programmes in a concise format – through short guided tours, performances and mini-workshops.
Histories of Tanzania
Curators from Dar es Salaam, Songea and Berlin open the exhibition ‘Histories of Tanzania’ in 2024, accompanied by a diverse programme featuring Tanzanian artists.
Build up! Tear down!
As the highlight of the annual theme ‘Blown Awax. The Palace of the Republic’, around 120 performers will captivate audiences in 2024 with a theatrical spectacle taking place throughout the building.
Global Climate Call
In 2024, the Humboldt Laboratory will be broadcasting live from research projects around the world: to the Polarstern in the Arctic, to a scientist in the Amazon, and to a bushfire research station in Australia.
Transkontinentale
The newly established dance, theatre and performance festival ‘Transkontinentale’ will bring artistic works from four continents to theatres and exhibition spaces in 2024.
Guest performance in Shanghai
The performance “Revolution. The Foe Of An Arrow Wound” by Paper Tiger Theater Studio (Berlin Beijing) has enjoyed international success and will be appearing at the ACT Festival in Shanghai in 2025 with four sold-out performances.
From Declaration to Action
The Global Cultural Assembly is continuing to develop its work – the first tangible results include jointly developed exhibition spaces and a programme for the public in June 2025.
Objects talk back
A dedicated book series will be published in June 2025 to accompany the “Objects talk back” programme, a discussion format that exemplifies the approaches taken at the Humboldt Forum.
Durchlüften – Open Air in the Schlüter Courtyard
In the summer of 2025, 85,000 visitors will celebrate the sixth edition of the open-air music festival ‘Durchlüften’, surpassing all previous events.
