Cengîz Yazgî is a Kurdish musician from the province of Sêrt in Kurdistan who has had a passion for music since childhood. Due to the conflicts in the 1990s, his family moved to Istanbul.
As a street musician in Istanbul, Yazgî blended the musical traditions of his homeland with modern elements of pop and blues rock. He became particularly well known for his versatile, expressive voice and soulful songs, which enabled him to reach the final of the casting show ‘Kurd Idol’. One of Yazgî’s special talents is his versatility as a singer: he can sing in several Kurdish dialects, including Kurmanci, Sorani, Kelhûrî and Zazaki.
Despite repeated racist attacks on his music, Yazgî remained true to his passion. In 2019, he released his first album, ‘Warway’.
Due to the political situation of the Kurds in Turkey, Cengîz Yazgî fled to Germany and currently lives in Berlin. He is continuing his musical career and is currently working on a new album.
