Jatun Mama is a Kichwa electronic duo from the Ecuadorian Andes that weaves ancestral cosmology into a hypnotic blend of cumbia-tinged rhythms, bittersweet Andean strings, and deep electronic textures. Formed in 2023 in the Kichwa commune of Turuku in Cotacachi–Imbabura, the project is led by producer Jesús Bonilla, who reimagines ritual music and traditional Andean instruments through contemporary sound design—channeling the energy of ceremony and celebration into the
club and beyond.
Their debut album URA UKU (2025), produced within the community-based ANTA Records studio in the Andes and released with Berlin’s Eck Echo Records, explores Indigenous cosmology across atmospheric soundscapes and pulsing beats. Following their first European tour in 2024, Jatun Mama continues to carry the strength of Kichwa culture into new global contexts, embodying a powerful re-signification of ancestral sound in contemporary Indigenous music.
