‘Dancing and singing is our life’ – this proverbial statement expresses the attitude of many Kurds towards music and, above all, folk dancing.

First watch, then join in

With their dance performance, the Berlin dance group Govenda Kurdi-International (GovendaKÎ) invites you to experience the social and cultural significance of Kurdish dance culture and feel the joy of moving together.

GovendaKÎ, which means ‘dancing together’ in Kurdish, was founded in 2011 and is made up of dancers from different backgrounds. The group combines tradition and modernity in its performances and artistically conveys the cultural diversity of Kurdish and other international dance traditions.

With its choreographies, which are influenced by both traditional Kurdish dances and modern, contemporary influences, GovendaKÎ creates a unique atmosphere. In addition to the diversity of dance, the social aspect is also at the forefront: the group promotes community and exchange between people of different origins and aims to overcome prejudices through dancing together.

GovendaKÎ

The open dance group GovendaKÎ is aimed at people from all over the world who live here. We learn dances and their meanings from the different regions of Kurdistan and get to know each other better through dancing together with all our different life experiences. Dance is a universal language that brings people together. The group is suitable for beginners and advanced dancers, young and old alike.
