On 7 October 2023, the current conflict in Israel and Gaza began – with far-reaching consequences for society. How can we talk about this complex issue without becoming entrenched or falling silent? The Trialogue Project, initiated by Jouanna Hassoun and Shai Hoffmann, invites us to tackle this challenge together.

BERLIN GLOBAL and “Gesellschaft im Wandel” (Society in Transition) are opening a space for dialogue: ask your questions, listen to different perspectives, and engage in conversation with others.

The Trialogue hosts, Lili Zahavi and Zakariyya Meißner, will guide the discussion. Both are personally affected by the conflict and bring Israeli and Palestinian identities into the trialogue. They consciously create space for questions and views that often remain unspoken – and work with you to find answers.

The audience is the third voice in the trialogue: invited to reflect, ask questions, and actively participate. It’s about political dimensions, prejudice and uncertainty, about hope and democracy. The trialogue offers a safe framework where different perspectives can be heard and understood.

Awareness notice: The “Compassion Crew” awareness team will be available during the event.

Organisational note: Please store jackets and bags larger than A4. Cloakroom facilities are available on the ground floor, and lockers on the first floor.

Lili Zahavi

Lili Zahavi is a filmmaker with roots in Israel and the former East Germany. At home in both worlds, she grew up in Berlin after reunification. She is studying for a diploma in film directing at the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg.

Lili works as an actress, director and writer. Since her school days, she has been committed to social and political projects. She is active as an artistic consultant in projects with young people promoting pluralism and democracy and opposing racism and antisemitism. She also serves as a Trialogue mentor for “Gesellschaf im Wandel”.

Zakariyya Meißner

As a German-Palestinian, Zakariyya Meißner finds it particularly challenging to avoid the topic of the Middle East conflict, especially in Germany, where public discourse is often highly polarised. Through his work, he aims to make the debate more objective and create spaces where people can engage openly and without prejudice with the conflict.

Zakariyya Meißner studied Islamic Studies in Freiburg and has many years of experience in preventing Islamist and far-right radicalisation. Most recently, he completed his studies as a coach and organisational developer and now works freelance, offering support on issues such as the Middle East conflict, anti-discrimination organisational development and hostility towards specific social groups.

In the Humboldt Forum's foyer there is a 17 meter high media tower, called "cosmograph". It gives visitors comprehensive information about their visit and can transform into an art and light installation.
