Ra Mava was born in Umthatha in South Africa’s Eastern Cape, he traces his love of music to his mother, who introduced him to legends like Letta Mbulu, Brenda Fassie, Miriam Makeba, and Hugh Masekela. In the late ’90s and 2000s, his brothers expanded his sonic world through kwaito, house, and hip-hop — foundations that continue to shape his sound today.

Now a DJ and percussionist, Ra Mava brings that rich heritage into dynamic sets and live performances. He has long contributed to Mthwakazi’s Xhopera (Xhosa + opera) and adds rhythmic depth with djembe, congas, shakers, and other percussive textures.
