In January, children and their caregivers came together at the Humboldt Forum to create brand new children’s books – side by side with bookmakers. This Book-A-Thon was organised by Black Dads Germany. Now, storyteller April is presenting the freshly printed books at a cosy read-aloud session.
So make yourselves comfortable in our Living Room and listen to these brand-new stories!
One book will be read in German, one in English.

April works at the intersection of social diversity, institutional structures and individual life paths. For many years, she worked in the field of diversity, equity and inclusion within an international corporation, where she advocated for participation, fairer access and sustainable change within organisations, politics and society. Drawing on her own intersectional perspective, April focuses on the concrete realities of life in a globally interconnected world. Her aim is to clearly identify complex interrelationships, connect different perspectives and, from this, provide guidance and direction.
Black Dads Germany creates safe spaces for diverse fathers and children, strengthens families and connects communities across Germany. The initiative was founded by Alain Missala with the aim of reshaping the public image of Black fatherhood in German society and placing Black narratives at the centre of cultural representation. The work is aimed in particular at future generations and uses children’s literature as a tool to promote positive portrayals of Black families. Black Dads Germany encourages Black fathers to become agents of change in their communities and to drive long-term social transformation.
