“Mama made me do it” is a participatory performance by My Migrant Mama and much cooler than yours. Drawing on their experiences as mothers with a migrant background, Melisa and Dami create a space centred on memory, care and intergenerational exchange. Together with the audience, they explore questions such as: How are stories, influences, gestures and forms of knowledge passed on, and how do they continue to shape us?
Over tea, nail painting and shared reading, an intimate space for exchange emerges. Personal memories are shared, new connections are made, and different experiences of migration, family and care are woven together.

My Migrant Mama is much cooler than yours. Two projects, one mission. One celebrates. The other empowers. Both are fighting for the same cause: to reshape the narrative of migration and its protagonists. My Migrant Mama celebrates migration by offering authentic storytelling products – made by migrants. Through intergenerational dialogue and high-quality design, MMM is creating a new narrative of migration. As a sister organisation, much cooler than yours supports this mission by developing tools for migrant self-empowerment, so we can tell our own stories.
Melisa from MMM and Dami from mcty – both migrant mums – will be at the Humboldt Forum and look forward to seeing you. Drop by, make yourselves comfortable and tell us about your world. We’re creating a space for intimate conversations about migration, memory and what we carry from our mothers – sometimes with a cup of tea in hand, sometimes with nail varnish, or simply snuggled up on the carpet.
