Scoop is an enchanting theatrical journey for the very youngest children and their caregivers. A sheltered environment resembling a cozy tent offers a small group space for learning experiences that engage all the senses. The play uses simple objects such as spoons, bowls, and cloths. Through direct interaction with the babies, the performers show in an innovative way how to connect with very young people and engage with them on different sensory levels. The play with objects, light, sounds, and polyphonic singing amazes young and old alike! At the same time, the little children are a remarkable audience: they sleep when they feel like it, watch with interest, or crawl across the ceiling.

Theater maker and poet Koleka Putuma has staged Magnet Theatre’s Scoop: Kitchen Play for Carers and Babes as the first South African baby theater play.
