To this day, Alice Schwarzer is both revered and vilified. Since the 1970s, the journalist has been the face of the women’s movement in Germany. She initiated the cover story “We’ve Had Abortions” in STERN, founded EMMA, and has written over 40 books to date, including biographies of Romy Schneider and Marion Dönhoff. Pure Feminism. 99 Words is the title of Alice Schwarzer’s latest book. It addresses topics such as abortion, gender, and sexism. There’s even a chapter on handbags. What does that have to do with feminism? She wanted to include “something lighthearted” in the book. Besides, she owns “a striking number of handbags.”
