He is a fan of German schlager music, a passionate handball player, and, by his own account, was a rather average student. Even before completing his A-levels, the native of Kiel joined the CDU. Since June 2017, Daniel Günther has served as Minister-President of Schleswig-Holstein. He was first elected to the state parliament in 2009 and became chairman of the CDU in his home state in 2016. Daniel Günther studied political science, economics, and psychology. Within the federal CDU, he aligned himself with then-Chancellor Angela Merkel. He has advocated for proceedings to ban the AfD. His support for a more pragmatic approach toward the Left Party earned him the mocking nickname “Genosse Günther”. When it comes to social media, the Minister-President is calling for an age limit of 16 years.
