In 2026, he published his third novel: ‘Sanditz’. In this book, Lukas Rietzschel follows the Wenzel family from the 1970s through to the Covid-19 era. Born in 1994 in Upper Lusatia, Saxony, the author is now regarded as the literary voice of the East, an observer and analyst of East Germany. He is a regular guest on talk shows and television programmes. Lukas Rietzschel studied in Kassel and later in Görlitz. It was only in the West that he became an East German. He has been a member of the SPD since 2017. In his novels ‘Mit der Faust in die Welt schlagen’ and ‘Raumfahrer’, the writer recounts life in the provinces after the end of the GDR. Rietzschel has also enjoyed success in the theatre, for example with the plays ‘Das beispielhafte Leben des Samuel W.’ and ‘Der Girschkarten’.
