STAND BY tells three stories from Latin America about family and migration, about fragmentation and longing, about video-mothers and abandoned children. These stories are interrupted and contrasted by the absurd visions of contemporary political figures such as Elon Musk, who proposes offering the world’s migrants a new perspective—on Mars.

She gained her first theater experience at the age of 15 at the Stadttheater Bremerhaven. In 1999, she completed her training in acting, dance, and singing at the Berlin School of Performing Arts and continues her development in dance at institutions such as the Tanzfabrik in Berlin.
From 2006–2013, she worked with the renowned international theater group Teatro de los Andes in Bolivia. With the ensemble, she played, among others, the role of Penelope in The Odyssey at various well-known international theater festivals in Chile, Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Venezuela, Mexico, Ecuador, and New Zealand – festivals that also attract directors such as Robert Wilson, Frank Castorf, and Peter Brook.
After her engagement in Bolivia, she performed with the Ton und Kirschen Wandertheater from Werder, among others.
She is currently a member of the ensemble at ATZE Musiktheater in Berlin and also works at the Deutsches Theater, Theaterdiscounter, and in Italy with director César Brie at Isola del Teatro. Since 2000, she has been a member of Calaca e.V.
Born in Mexico, Mario Vázquez has lived in Berlin for over 30 years, working as an actor, visual artist, and photographer. He is the initiator of the Mexican Day of the Dead Festival in Berlin, a founding member of Calaca e.V., and served for many years as the festival’s artistic director.
He trained as an actor at the Escuela Nacional Mascarones in Mexico, where he was a member of the ensemble for 13 years. As an actor, he has taken part in all productions by Calaca e.V. As a director, he has staged, among others, the music and shadow theater piece Franziska und der Tod (Franziska and Death) as well as The Journey to Mictlán.
Born in Buenos Aires, he studied Communication Sciences at UBA. Between 2006 and 2010, he worked as an actor in the community theater group Pompapetriyasos, with performances in Argentina and Uruguay. From 2013 to 2017, he collaborated as a clown with the Berlin-based ensemble Rotonda Teatro. Since 2010, he has been performing in various productions by Calaca e.V.
Dancer, choreographer, and drama educator. She studied at the Universidad Academia de Humanismo Cristiano in Santiago de Chile and at the Berlin University of the Arts. She has mostly worked in the independent dance scene of Santiago de Chile and is currently involved in projects within Berlin’s independent dance and theater scene. Her most recent projects include Startbande (Schauspielhaus Bochum, 2025), where she contributed as choreographer; Nostalgie des Wassers (Berlin, 2023), where she was part of the artistic research team; Tanz der Krähe (Dance of the Crow, Queer Theater Collective, Dortmund, 2023), where she was responsible for directing and stage design; cruising – a queer glimpse (Berlin, 2021), as co-director and performer. Since 2023, she has been working as a drama educator at the Mädchen*treff Café Pink, developing theater pieces with young people. Josefina has been part of Calaca e.V. since 2018.
German actress, director, and drag performer. She studied at the HMT Rostock and now lives and works in Berlin. She has appeared as a guest performer at venues including Volkstheater Rostock, Schauspielhaus Bochum, and Staatstheater Braunschweig. Since 2006, she has been active in the independent theater scene, often working with an interdisciplinary focus, including at Kampnagel Hamburg, Lofft Leipzig, and as a drag performer at SCHWUZ and other queer event locations.
They have been working together since 1998 and are founding members of the theater company Ton und Kirschen. Daisy serves as technical director and designer of stage and objects, while Nelson is an actor, puppeteer, and sculptor. Under the name Stone River Theatre, the two also develop various theater and art projects in Colombia. Their shows and workshops have been presented at festivals around the world.
