A Place That’s Growing

New permeable Paving at the Humboldt Forum

On the area next the Spree Terraces, we are testing three innovative forms of greened paving. Our aim is not only to enhance the appearance of the Humboldt Forum’s surroundings, but also to make the outdoor space noticeably more pleasant.

Natural Cooling

The young plants help to improve the microclimate. On warm days, the seedlings will help to cool the surrounding air – an important step towards creating a more comfortable urban environment.

Water Storage in the Ground

Rainwater can drain into the ground better and will be stored underneath the pavement. This relieves the sewer system, increases soil moisture and all in all contributes to a better use of our resource: water.

Follow our project as it grows and help us protect the young plants. Every single seedling is a help for making the pavements around the Humboldt Forum greener, more vital and sustainable.

How the Project Supports Our Sustainability Goals

The paving greening initiative is part of our commitment to ecological, social and culturally responsible development. It aligns with the goals set out in our 2023 Sustainability Report, particularly in the following areas:

  • Ecological Quality: Promoting biodiversity, improving the microclimate and supporting sustainable water management.
  • Sociocultural Quality: Creating a pleasant, healthy and welcoming space for all visitors.
  • Leading by Example: Implementing visible measures that demonstrate what sustainable action can look like in an urban context.

With projects like this, we are putting the principles outlined in our Sustainability Report into practice – step by step.
