Eye-to-eye introduction by Zita Labusch & Levina Klein, pupils, Berlin

Like his father, little Toomai wants to become a mahout – an elephant leader.  When 40 mahouts are required for an expedition in the Indian principality of Mysore, Toomai is excluded initially. That  changes after the tragic death of his father. Henceforth Toomai proves his talents in dealing with elephants. Robert Flaherty, one of the pioneers of documentary filmmaking, and his co-director Zoltan Korda adapted Rudyard Kipling’s story Toomai of the Elephants. The film was shot on original locations.
