The site where today’s Humboldt Forum stands has a long and eventful history: Hohenzollern residence, parade ground, Palace of the Republic, and great meadow – it has always been a venue of special political significance in the midst of Berlin, and at the same time one of artistic expression.

Which themes and objects still remind us today of the past and the various historical events? And what do they say about the history of the place?

The overview tour encourages discussion of historical images and their impact in the present. Based on selected stations and objects, it offers an insight into the history of the site from the time of the electors, kings and emperors to the debate about the demolition of the Palace of the Republic and illustrates the diverse use of the site in different times.

Practical Notes

  • Recommendation to wear a mask

Visitors aged 6 and over are recommended to wear an FFP2 or medical face mask in all interior rooms of the Humboldt Forum. Unless otherwise stated, this also applies to guided tours and events. For your own safety and the safety of your children, we recommend that all age groups take a rapid antigen test before visiting the Humboldt Forum.

  • Still together against Corona

As a precaution, we are continuing some efficient and proven measures at the Humboldt Forum in order to be able to guarantee basic protection for all visitors and staff. We regularly check the current infection situation and will adapt our in-house measures accordingly.

  • Meeting point & time

The meeting point for guided tours and the location for workshops can be found on your booking confirmation. In order for the tour to begin punctually, please arrive 15 minutes before the programme is due to start. We ask that you allow for this additional quarter hour when planning your visit.
