When Frauke Brosius-Gersdorf goes public in mid-July 2025, appearing on Markus Lanz’s programme on ZDF, she wants to “break free from the role of victim”. Nominated by the SPD, the lawyer is due to be elected as a constitutional judge by the Bundestag just a few days earlier. But this does not happen; the vote is cancelled at short notice. During this period, the constitutional law expert is confronted with accusations ranging as far as false claims. Subsequent analyses confirm a campaign originating from right-wing online platforms. The focus is on her stance on abortion and a ban on the AfD. Many of the accounts, according to the legal scholar, “were, in my view, incomplete, unobjective and, in some cases, false”. In August 2025, Frauke Brosius-Gersdorf withdrew her candidacy for the position of judge at the Federal Constitutional Court. Instead of moving to Karlsruhe, she returned to the University of Potsdam in October 2025. There, the law professor has held the Chair of Public Law since 2021. In September 2026, her book „Wahl und Wahrheit. Was unser Grundgesetz gefährdet und wie wir es schützen” was published.
