In late November 2026, the Humboldt Forum will begin its two-year programming focus on property and inheritance. The grand launch promises a weekend of discussions, tours, and three exhibition openings connected with the global regions of South America, Asia, and Africa.
Who does the world belong to – who do cities, or water belong to? What are we passing on to future generations? How do inheritance and property inform our chances in life, our identities, and visions of the future? What does ownership mean in an era when resources are becoming increasingly scarce but aspirations continue to grow? How do historical inequalities affect our access to power, space, and prosperity today?
Mine, Yours, Ours!? explores property and inheritance by examining global and local approaches to natural and cultural heritage. A programme of exhibitions, events, workshops, and tours issues an invitation to join the conversation – whether it’s about vital resources such as water and soil, notions of ownership and legacy in different societies, or various ways of living together, cultural appropriation, and the origins and future of collections in museums.
Mine, Yours, Ours!? is a two-year programming focus brought to you by the institutions behind the Humboldt Forum – Stiftung Humboldt Forum im Berliner Schloss, Stiftung Preussischer Kulturbesitz with the Ethnologisches Museum and Museum für Asiatische Kunst, Berlin Museum, and Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. It has been developed and curated in cooperation with the Goethe-Institut and in association with the Global Cultural Assembly and other local and international partners.
