Katharina Kollmann has been releasing music under the name “Lake Felix” for 10 years, but in 2017 she started writing songs under the name Nichtseattle, and for the first time in German. Nichtseattle: a name like a metaphor for a place you come from, or rather don’t come from. Says Kollmann, “You could just as easily say Nichtamerika, Nichtfilm, Nichtzukunft or Nichtwennsienichtgestorbensind.” One day she read a quote from Marx and was immediately moved: “The demand to give up illusions about a state is the demand to give up a state that needs illusions.” Of course, the name is also a nice reminiscence of the old song by Tocotronic.

Their second album following “Wendekid” with the beautiful title “Kommunistenlibido” was released on April 29, 2022 on the Staatsakt label as an opulent double vinyl including a songbook by illustrator Fania Jacob.

By the way, Nichtseattle comes from Berlin. Born in 1985, right here in Berlin, Berlin-Karlshorst to be exact.
