Let’s meet in the courtyard. This summer, the Schlüterhof will be transformed into a stage.

It’s time again for AIRING OUT!
The 2nd edition of the open-air summer festival will take place on four weekends with free admission at the Schlüterhof. Between 28 July and 20 August, 12 international music events will alternate with a varied and entertaining family programme.

All Berliners and their guests are cordially invited to the inner courtyard of the Humboldt Forum on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Music curator and scene expert Melissa Perales has put together a programme that not only features a large open-air stage, but also includes the pop-up architecture of Parasites 2.0 and the DEMOmobile of the Jugend Museum. This year’s festival focuses on questions about forms of civil and artistic protest. Numerous offers on the topic of the histories of protest and democracy are aimed at young people who want to get active in the DEMOmobil from Wednesday to Sunday. Our Empört Euch (Be indignant) workshop invites young people to join in on two Fridays.

In addition, all children can look forward to open-air Picture-Book Cinema and Story Theatre every Saturday.

Curator’s Statement

Guest curator Melissa Perales (Music Pool Berlin, Torstrassen Festival, Night School,++) invites a diverse group of musicians, performers and activists for 12-Evenings celebration of music, words, and images spanning continents and cultures. The program focuses on music, but also includes: discussion formats, performances, films, DJs, and live performances by many Berlin-based and some out-of-town transcultural and cross-genre artists.

“For me curating this stage is an opportunity to create a space for all the stories from the invited artists to be re-centered. A journey between past, present and future. Allowing new narratives to flourish in their place, written or recorded by those who live or have lived through them and offer new approaches. This stage will continue to offer a platform for underrepresented stories and make a bridge to touch on many other topics that are of concern and play a large role in our every day life, moving us towards understanding each other and observing from another perspective. I look forward to welcome all audiences, especially folks like me that were not always able to afford a ticket to a concert, or a museum opening a place for new dialouges. It is a lifelong dream of mine to create a setting where culture is available for everyone and it is not held hostage by consumerism or by academic barriers. I am very happy that this year’s stage is free for all those wishing to take part and listen.
