Twisted rhythms, breakbeats, wild percussions and asian groove takes over the dance floor and turns it into an overflow of multiple sound images and unrestrained ritual dance. In time of decolonial contex in Kazakhstan and the rise of electronic scene, music has become now a power to bring back the importance of kazakh culture, music and language. Kokonja is a co-founder of U parties that bring together Kazakh hip-hop artists and electronic music.
Kokonja (b. 1996) is a young artist and DJ born in Aqmola oblysy, Zhalgyzqaragai, based in Almaty. She studied at Philology faculty, and practiced arts from younger years. After moving to Almaty couple years ago she started her career and become one of the brightest figures in Almaty underground scene. She become resident of ZVUK collective and soon represented the Almaty electronic scene on Boiler Room in 2021.
Kokonja is a visual and sound artist, her artworks has been featured at galleries of Kazakhstan and this year being a member of Central Asian “Davra” collective curated by Saodat Ismailova, featured Documenta 15th in Kassel.
