Whose heritage and whose property are we actually referring to when we speak of cultural heritage? Mirrianne Mahn poses this question as a Black woman in a house where her body was not initially intended to be treated with human dignity, but at best as the object of an ethnological gaze. From this perspective, she asks what it means to preserve a cultural heritage that is not one’s own. How do we deal with this heritage? And can it even be transformed? Her keynote address explores who tells whose stories, who is missing from them, and to whom the Humboldt Forum actually belongs.
