What resonates within us when earth meets water? Inspired by the work Flutuações, this workshop invites participants to experience the rhythm of mangrove forests through an encounter that is both sensory and reflective.

Feeling the damp clay in your hands is like touching the mangroves themselves. As the clay is shaped, the ebb and flow of the tides become tangible. Gathered around a shared table and illuminated by projected images, participants work with the clay and discover that the creative act does not belong to the artist alone, but emerges from a profound coexistence between community and territory.

With traces of earth still on their hands, the group then moves into the exhibition space for an open conversation in front of the work. There, participants gain a deeper understanding that the piece itself is the result of collective knowledge developed in collaboration with fishing communities. As custodians of inherited traditions, they share ways of safeguarding life in a place where land and sea meet and embrace.

Gabriela Bandeira, born in a fishing community in São Gonçalo, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, is an artist, researcher, educator, and producer. The daughter of an artisanal fisherman, she works across drawing, audiovisual media, and ceramics. She holds a BA in Art and an MA in Artistic Process Studies from the Universidade Federal Fluminense (UFF) and is currently pursuing a PhD in Interdisciplinary Poetics at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ). Her research focuses on site-specific artistic practices. This connection to her territory is reflected in Agradim, a project she created to preserve the memory of artisanal fishing, and in her work as an art educator with the NGO Guardiões do Mar.
