Let’s meet in the courtyard. This summer, the Schlüterhof will be transformed into a stage.
Over six weeks, the Humboldt Forum warmly invites all Berliners and lovers of art and music to visit our inner courtyard for a series of events. The programme for the main stage focuses on music, presenting performances every Friday and Saturday evening drawn from Berlin’s diverse music scene, along with discussions, performances and video art. Families and young people can enjoy an artistic programme every Saturday, with opportunities to take part in making radio and to listen to stories. Visitors will also discover colourful pop-up architecture, a multimedia installation all about the colonial history of the potato, and delicious food and drink.
Come and see us! Even if the seats for the stage programme are fully booked: There is plenty of space in the Schlüter Courtyard – spontaneous visitors are welcome and admission is free.
Programme
A diverse programme with live concerts, DJ sets, discussions, video art and performances offers the spotlight on artists whose work is a statement for a polyphonic, hybrid, and interconnected idea of culture, history and identity, regardless of their musical genres or countries of origin. Together, they aim to create an interdisciplinary and cross cultural stage which intersects with a local and global community, inviting the audience to celebrate their talents and be part of a dialogue.
The Berlin-based music curator Melissa Perales has created a programme of events on the main stage to invite a diverse community of musicians, artists, performers, thinkers and activists into the Schlüter Courtyard. Melissa Perales, said of her programme: “The audience is invited to join us on a journey: Over the course of six weeks, the programme will bring together a group of talents who claim space, through their music and words for a critical dialogue. Who bring forth their individual stories, ask difficult questions, and give a voice to their ancestors. Our hope is that this spark will continue beyond the summer in discussions inside the Humboldt Forum spaces, and resonate beyond.”

He is bringing artists, friends and the street culture from Kreuzberg’s StreetUniverCity e.V. Society into the Schlüterhof. The material created in the Radio Speech Corner will be broadcast via a listening station within the Schlüterhof and subsequently on multicult.fm.

Tell me something!
Stories only really come to life through the people who tell them. These stories are about stones and soup made of stones, about treehouses and palaces, about Alexander and Wilhelm von Humboldt and much, much more. A new story will be told every Saturday – in German and another language. Turkish, Spanish, Swabian, Italian, Arabic, Sign Language, Norwegian and German. A story can be told in any language, even if the storytellers are speaking two different languages. By telling stories in tandem, two languages become one tale. It doesn’t matter if you only speak one language or have only ever heard the second language in passing, or if you understand both of them. These stories will come to life for everyone!
from 4 years on, 07.8.–11.9.2021 Saturday, 11:00–11:30 and 14:30–15:00, no registration required
In case of rain, the family programme will happen indoors. Please follow the directions placed in the Schlüter Courtyard or ask your service staff. On site, people above 12 years please wear an FFP2 mask, adults please register and prove that you are either tested negative or fully vaccinated or recovered (GGG rule).
Pop-up Architecture
Pop-up islands transform the Schlüter Courtyard into a colourful landscape in the summer. The Italian pop-up architecture group Parasite 2.0 have created islands that are open to visitors to access. These islands are places to relax and chat, but they can also become an interactive stage for artistic activities. Resembling stage sets, the wooden elements stand for the constant ongoing development of the Humboldt Forum. In a central, public space at the very heart of the Forum and in the midst of the city, the islands aim to symbolise how Berlin’s society can play a part in this process of development.
7.8.–11.9.2021 open continuously during opening hours and according to the hygiene rules of the Schlüter Courtyard.
Culo de Papa
Culo de Papa is at once an art kiosk, a video installation and some potatoes growing in the Schlüterhof. Its creator, Berlin artist Anne Duk Hee Jordan, has woven together Prussia’s colonial history with her own personal experiences, taking the potato as a prompt to reflect on identities, transience and transformation. She uses the potato plant to reveal demographic, environmental and colonial processes which she addresses in images of assimilation and disembodiment. Stop by at the kiosk to create a personal potato memory of your own!
