Thirty-one years have passed since the genocide in Rwanda, but the book Hewa Rwanda by Rwandan actor and director Dorcy Rugamba, published in 2024, stands today as one of the most authentic accounts for understanding the events. In this moving musical reading, Dorcy Rugamba describes the life of his family, which was wiped out on the morning of 7 April 1994, and his life afterwards. Hewa Rwanda is a story of rare power about family, culture and spirituality – and an antidote to the ‘impulses of death’ that continue to dominate our times.

Dorcy Rugamba ist Schriftsteller, Schauspieler, Tänzer und Regisseur. Er lebt und arbeitet in Brüssel und Kigali. Im Jahr 2012 gründete er die Rwanda Arts Initiative in Kigali, ein Kunstzentrum, das sich an Kulturunternehmer richtet. Am 13. März 2024 veröffentlichte er sein Buch „Hewa Rwanda une lettre aux absents“ (Hewa Rwanda, ein Brief an die Abwesenden), eine Geschichte über seine Familie.
Majnun ist ein senegalesischer Musiker, Multiinstrumentalist und Performer. Sein Künstlername – „der Verrückte“ – steht für den kreativen Freiraum, in dem er die Tiefen seiner Seele erkundet. In einem von Kunst geprägten Umfeld aufgewachsen, entwickelte er einen nomadischen, genreübergreifenden Stil zwischen Afrobeat, Jazz, Funk, Trance und Latin.
2015 veröffentlichte er sein erstes Album. 2019 führte ihn eine Westafrika-Tour mit seiner Band The Black-Magic Sofas Sofas nach Benin, Mali und Senegal, wo auch sein dekoloniales Album Mandigo’s Fight entstand. Mit dem Theaterstück Liberté j’aurai habité ton rêve jusqu’au dernier soir betrat Majnun 2021 erstmals die Bühne des Festival d’Avignon und tourte anschließend international. Weitere Rollen folgten, darunter in La vie comme elle vient.
